watching NO QUESTIONS ASKED tonight. I’ve only seen Sullivan before in QUEEN BEE, he’s so cool and I look forward to seeing more of his films. Thanks for this informative blog post about his career!
Like a lot of actors we’ve look at in this blog series, like Dan Duryea, John Hodiak, Richard Basehart, etc., Sullivan isn’t forgotten today. He is, however, very underrated as an actor both during his era and now. It seemed like studios weren’t always sure what to do with him, even though he proved that he was an amazing tough guy in unique, dark noirs. But studios already had their go-to actor for those roles. Sullivan, on the other hand, spent a good deal of time at MGM where they really didn’t have a designated studio tough guy. He was mostly used for boring leading man roles throughout his career and occasionally interesting supporting parts.
